Trust in Publishing – A Case Study

SPIEGEL ONLINE is one of the behemoths of the German media and the largest mobile-accessed German news website in the world, receiving approximately 1 billion page impressions each month from almost 18 million unique visitors. 

The publication – like all in the broader publishing industry – was looking to strike the right balance in its monetization strategy in order to account for an increasingly digital and mobile audience.

SPIEGEL and LaterPay partnered to put a novel concept in the publishing industry to the test: trust. If the publisher trusted in its premium content and trusted in consumers’ willingness to pay after they have made an initial purchasing decision, would it be rewarded?
